Dental Fillings

A common form of restorative dentistry is dental filling. Many patients that have dental decay receive a dental filling. In the dental filling procedure, we remove the dental decay, and then the cavity is filled with a composite resin, often called a tooth-colored filling. It is essential to get a dental filling right away once it is detected because if the decay is not removed, it will spread and cause tooth and gum concerns.

Dental Crowns

Another typical dental restoration is a dental crown. Patients with severe dental decay or a broken tooth can benefit from a dental crown. A dental crown is often referred to as a dental cap. A dental crown fits over the top of a tooth and is bonded in place. Before we place the crown, Dr. Maulla will often wear down the enamel to make the tooth smaller so the crown can fit on top. Dental crowns are made of porcelain which is a durable and stain-resistant material.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are standard procedures used to restore missing teeth in a row. A dental bridge looks like multiple dental crowns are attached. A dental bridge will have at least three dental crowns attached to replace one missing tooth. The side dental crowns will fit over the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth. A dental bridge replaces the top crown of the tooth rather than the entire tooth. Dental bridges can help many patients restore the look and function of their smile if they have one or more missing teeth.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is similar to dental fillings in that both procedures use identical material, composite resin. Dental bonding will help restore a cracked or broken tooth by restoring a missing part of a tooth. Overall, dental bonding can make a tooth appear straighter and more whole.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are an innovative way to replace one or more missing teeth by replacing the entire tooth from its root to its crown. There are many advantages to using a dental implant instead of other restorative solutions such as dental bridges. A dental implant uses a titanium post to replace the tooth’s root. The post stimulates the tooth’s bone and gums, decreasing the risk of the bone losing density. If the bone is not produced, as with a dental bridge, then the bone loses density and causes the face to appear sunken. Another advantage of a dental implant is replacing an entire set of teeth with dental implant-supported dentures. Your dentist can use four or five dental implants to support a whole bunch of dentures that look and function like natural teeth.

Root Canal

Patients that have a severely infected tooth may benefit from a root canal. If a tooth infection reaches the tooth’s inner layer, the pulp, the disease causes pain and damage. The infection can even get into the bloodstream at this stage, causing an infection throughout your body. To prevent the spread of infection, your dentist may recommend a root canal. This procedure is done under sedation to reduce discomfort during and after. Dr. Maulla will remove the infected part of the tooth and fill the canal with a composite resin during the process. If needed, your dentist may extract the tooth and its root and recommend a dental implant.
